The Quotes

There are two main ways to look for a particular quote:

  1. Go to the Contents page or the Contents Sorted by Author page, where there is a list of the quotes with brief descriptions of the contents, along with the name of the author who has been quote mined. To find particular authors, you can use the "find" function of your browser to search the Contents page for their names. For instance, on Internet Explorer or Opera, click on the "Edit" tab on the upper left of the screen and, in the drop-down menu, click on "Find". A box will open. Enter the last name of the author who has been quote mined in the box and click on the "find" button.

  2. Go to the Archive search page which is linked to at the top and bottom of most Archive pages. In the box, enter a short, but distinctive, phrase from the quote mine in quote marks and click on the "Search" button. Look for any returned page from the Quote Mine Project. Here is a sample search result:

If you don't succeed the first time, try another phrase or shorten the one you are using (sometimes line breaks defeat the search function).

If you do get a result for the Quote Mine Project, click on a link and, if you don't see the quote right away on the new page, you can search the page as well with your browser's "find" function as described above. Enter the same phrase you originally searched on into the box and click on the "find" button.
